Updated: Jun 9

St John’s Hearing Aid Centre offers Home Visits and Free Home Consultations if you find it difficult to get to our Edinburgh or Grange-Over-Sand branches.

It’s the same professional, friendly hearing care you’d receive in clinic, brought to you in the comfort of your own home.

Home visits are a practical option when travelling is difficult or stressful, and is ideal if you:

  • Have limited mobility, pain, fatigue, or health issues that make travel difficult

  • Are recovering from illness or surgery

  • Feel anxious about appointments and would be more comfortable at home

  • Live rurally and getting into town isn’t easy

  • Are a family member or carer arranging support for a loved one

If you’re reading this and not sure if a home visit is right for you, get in touch and we’ll talk it through.

A home visit can include:

  • A hearing consultation and assessment

  • Hearing aid advice and technology options

  • Hearing aid fitting and set-up (where appropriate)

  • Fine-tuning and adjustments

  • Aftercare support and troubleshooting

  • Hearing aid checks, cleaning, and maintenance

  • Ear wax removal

What happens during a home consultation?

1. We start with a friendly chat

We’ll talk about what you’ve been noticing, maybe conversations feel harder, the TV volume keeps creeping up, or phone calls are tricky.

2. We do a simple ear health check

We’ll check your ears to make sure everything looks healthy and to see if wax could be contributing.

3. If needed, we’ll carry out a hearing assessment

We’ll guide you through the test step by step and explain what we’re doing as we go. There’s no pressure and no rush.

4. You’ll get clear results and honest advice

We’ll explain your results in plain English and talk through your options. Our advice is always tailored to you and there’s never any obligation.

If you’re a family member or carer, you’re very welcome to be present during the appointment. We’ll take the time to answer questions and explain things clearly, so you feel confident about the next step.

Often, it’s the small changes that make the biggest difference; clearer conversations, less frustration, and more confidence day to day.
