Ear Wax Removal
Ear wax is completely normal, but sometimes it builds up and causes muffled hearing, discomfort, or a blocked feeling that just won't go away. It can also interfere with hearing aids if it's not kept on top of. The good news is it can easily be removed.
We offer professional earwax removal at our Grange-over-Sands and Edinburgh branches, and as part of our home visit service if travelling isn't easy for you.
How we do it
We use two methods depending on what's needed:
Microsuction
A gentle vacuum that draws the wax out without any water. It's precise, comfortable and widely considered the safest method available.
Irrigation
A carefully controlled warm water flush that softens and clears the wax. Effective for most types of build-up.
Your audiologist will have a look in your ears first with a specialist otoscope to assess what's there and decide which approach is most suitable. Most appointments take around 20 to 30 minutes, and the difference is usually noticeable straight away.
We'll check your ears again afterwards and let you know if there's anything to keep an eye on, and give you some straightforward advice on keeping things clear going forward.
Coming in for a hearing test or fitting too?
We may be able to take care of everything in one visit. If your ears need clearing before a hearing test or hearing aid fitting, just let us know when you book. And if getting to us is difficult, ask about our free home consultations.
Book an appointment or get in touch if you'd like to know more. We're happy to answer any questions first.

Do you already have hearing aids?
Earwax build-up is one of the most common reasons hearing aids stop performing as well as they should.
If yours have been sounding a bit off lately, it's worth ruling this out before assuming there's a bigger problem.
Speak to our friendly team and they'll happily help.
